Classes for Youth

No other Edmonton-based agency has achieved more for its child and teen students/clients than Great West Canadian Talent over the years.

Here are some of the credits from just over the past couple of years, (from Jan 2020) for  child/teen clients trained with GWCT:

  • The Hero girl (main role) and two other SOC child roles and two SOC teen roles on a video for Edmonton Tourism (fall 2019)
  • a main family member role on a new promo video for an Edmonton International Software Developer ( Nov 2019)
  • a photo stills shoot for AT&T national U.S. campaign (Calgary fall 2019)
  • the main child role in a U.S. national commercial for First Command military insurance (Calgary fall 2019)
  • a main family member and supporting teen speaking roles on a video for Edmonton Community Foundation
  • a main teen speaking role on the Feature “Events Transpiring Before During and After a High School Basketball Game” (Calgary summer 2019)
  • one of the only speaking roles on the FX Network limited series “A Teacher”, a teen role, cast from Edmonton ( Calgary, early fall 2019)
  • A child role on two videos for Laruna Womens’ Shelter (Winter and Fall 2019)
  • a child role on a commercial for Big Sisters and Big Brothers
  • the main child role in a video for Dreams Take Flight campaign
  • two speaking roles on commercials for Alberta Teachers Association( airing in both 2018 and 2019 in theatres, on TV, and on billboards)
  • two SOC child roles in a video for AUPE
  • two teen speaking roles and one child speaking role in French language training videos
  • the lead hero boy and a supporting young girl role in multiple Europe-wide LEGO Youtube commercials,(for the lead boy, after renegotiation, the highest paid non-union commercial job ever filmed in Edmonton)

Over the past couple of years alone, child/teen clients have also done numerous auditions for productions in Calgary such as “Jann”, “Chasing Justice”, additional roles on “A Teacher”,  “Heartland”, “Wynnona Earp”, “Black Summer”, “Ghostbusters 3”, and others.   Also over the past couple of years alone, child/teen clients have been submitted and requested for multiple productions in Toronto, Vancouver, and L.A. for TV and Film projects.

NEW! INTRO TO FILM ACTING FOR YOUNG CHILDREN (Ages, mature 4 to 6)

This program features shorter classes than the older child courses to introduce students to simple auditions, focus on camera, taking direction, preparing to work on a set, and naturalistic film acting.

    • Class size: 6 students
    • Duration: 9 one hour classes usually once a week plus one semi private session with groups of two students to video a short scene (ten classes in total) .
      The actual length of the 9th class is approximately 3 hours broken into 45 minute sessions for each pair with 15 minutes separating each pair to allow for departure/arrival to not interrupt any of the filming. One parent is asked to stay during the scene taping for this age group, and all parents are invited to watch in the final viewing class.
    • Course fee: $340.00/student

LEVEL 1 FILM ACTING FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG TEENS (Ages very mature 6, or 7 to 14 years old)

  • Class size: 8-10 students
  • Course length: 8 x 90 minute classes, plus one semi private filming of scenes day for a total of 9 classes over 9 weeks. For a full class of 10 students, an extra class may be added if necessary. (Class #8 is the scene taping and is a total of 4-5 hours with two students filming a scene for one hour with 15 minute breaks to allow for uninterrupted taping of each scene. One parent of the younger students may be requested to stay for the scene taping, and all parents are invited to the final viewing class.)
  • Course fee: $390.00/student

LEVEL 2 FILM ACTING FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG TEENS (Ages 7 to 14)

In this course the students are introduced improvising scenes to allow for longer acting workouts. The course also is an introduction to auditions for small roles for film and television.

  • Class size: 8-10 students
  • Course length: 9 x 90 minute classes. For classes with 10 students and extra class will be added.
  • Course fee: $340.00/student

LEVEL 3 FILM ACTING FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG TEENS (Ages 7 to 14)

Students do a review of some of the material from levels 1 and 2 and then work on additional small to medium size film and TV auditions depending on age and capabilities

  • Class size: 6-8 students
  • Course length:9 x 90 minute classes. For classes with 10 students and extra class will be added.
  • Course fee: $340.00/student

LEVEL 4 FILM ACTING FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG TEENS (Ages 8 to 14)

In this course, after a short review, students work on medium to larger sized film and TV auditions, according to their age and skill level.

  • Class size: 8-10 students
  • Course length:9 x 90 minute classes. For classes with 10 students and extra class will be added.
